Cancer Screening and Treatment – Clinical Care & Early Detection

Since January 2020, we have offered more than 300 cancer screening and treatment services plus an additional 1800 pathology diagnoses. We have done this through ICI collaborating counties including our main facility in Eldoret – most of the cases were breast cancer and cervical cancer.

ICI prioritizes patient-centered care across the continuum of the patient’s journey from advocacy, prevention, screening, early detection, optimal diagnostics to optimal treatments (using standardized protocols), palliative & survivorship care, research, and hospice care.

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Point of Care (POC)

All our clinical sites are connected to Electronic Medical Records and Essential Clinical Data Management through Open MRS that is modified by ICI’s team of software engineers and the data department. Additionally, ICI utilizes the POC-point of care-Screening for electronic data collection.

ICI has Partnerships with both local and international organizations for a robust M & E framework. We also have an Integrated approach to Community cancer screening, awareness, advocacy, and support the establishment of Facility-based routine screening centers. We also provide mentorship support for these centers within the NCD framework.

Partnerships

ICI is a partner to the First Ladies Association initiative called EMPOWER project. This is a First-ladies-led initiative to increase access to screening and early detection services in all counties in Kenya. We also have the Blueprint for Success Meru and Makueni counties in partnership with AMREF, KEHPCA, KEMRI, Elewa Foundation, NCI-Kenya, and the county governments’ Ministries of Health.

We provide diagnostic support to counties in partnership with 15 counties in Kenya in a hub-and-spoke model. ICI does all the pathology reviews (we have a full histopathology lab at ICI) for all the counties involved for up to 12 months. The Ventana platform supported by Pharma at ICI is used for IHC.
