Antony was diagnosed with SCD when he was 8 months. He remained relatively stable until late adolescence and during his time in college when he experienced numerous crises. Of note was one in 1996, when he was 25 years of age, got malaria and a severe anaemic crisis. He had to be transfused several times but was fortunately stabilized. From then on, he became more compliant with his care and follow-up.

 

Antony will soon celebrate his 50th birthday. He would like to invite his family, friends, and other SCD patients to share his experiences, advice, and encouragement. He is also planning to advocate and increase awareness of SCD in schools and his local community focusing on negating stigma and false misconceptions.
