National Cancer Survivors Day – Uganda

International Cancer Institute in partnership with Uganda Cancer Society marked the National Cancer Survivors Day at Kabwohe Stadium, Sheema Municipality, Uganda. The theme of the event was “Celebrating Life, Creating Hope”. The event seeks to create hope for cancer patients and help them reintegrate into their communities.

The cancer survivors gathered in a show of solidarity and created awareness through their testimonies and experiences, inspiring the local community to seek screening and care more for their health.

The National Cancer Survivors Day brought together dignitaries from Uganda Cancer Society, UCI, UNCDA, and the district local governments of Sheema, Bushenyi, Mbarara, plus other districts in the Ankole sub-region and western Uganda.

The event through the support of International Cancer Institute and other stakeholders seeks to create awareness around early detection, and prevention, and stimulate the conversation on the need for an enabling positive policy environment.
