National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week (NCCAW)

International Cancer Institute (ICI) was privileged to be part of the National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week (NCCAW) launch event that took place in Laikipia County on 19th January 2021. ICI being one of the key partners in the Stop Cervical Cancer TWG that organized the event took up the role of breast cancer and cervical cancer screening including conducting biopsy on site and data collection using the e-ICI, an EMR system. ICI sent a team of 7 staff including Clinicians, Data and M&E officers as well as Program Officers. Other major stakeholders in the event included: Laikipia County through the County Department of Health, National Cancer Control Program (NCCP)/MOH,  Clinton Health Foundation (CHAI),  Women for Cancer, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) among others. Apart from Cervical and breast cancer screening, other NCDs covered were Diabetes, Hypertension and Prostate Cancer for men.

Samples taken would be processed in the ICI Diagnostics and Reference Laboratory after which the results would be sent back to the Nanyuki County Referral Hospital. A joint clinic will then be scheduled in the County with an Oncologist and other specialists to review the positive cancer cases.
